Right of occupancy housing
All people over the age of 18 are eligible to apply for a right of occupancy apartment. A queue number for the application is needed from the location’s municipality.
You can request a queue number from the municipality in advance or from the company that owns the building when you apply for the apartment. This number is municipality-specific, permanent and applies to all the companies offering right of occupancy housing. When apartments become available, they are offered to the residents based on their number in the queue.
The income and property limits that once existed for applicants to right of occupancy housing have now been removed. However, the applicant cannot own a home of a reasonable quality in the same area or the funds to acquire one. This term, however, does not apply to applicants over the age of 55 or tenants changing apartments.
