Raisio has a long history

The oldest known document about Raisio dates from 1292. It is Kaarle Kustaanpoika's will, in which Raisio Elaus is assigned 10 marks of money. Raisio became a borough in 1966 and a city in 1974.

Raisio was a rural, agricultural area for a long time and the prosperity of Raisio's workers was widely acknowledged as there were more than 30 mills in the region. Agriculture is also behind the success of the city's most significant industrial facility as Raisio Group started as a mill company.

New archaeological discoveries are also redefining Raisio’s image. For example, excavations in Ihala’s Mulli area have revealed the remains of several iron age and early medieval buildings and objects, indicating permanent and extended land use and occupation.
